Abraham

Study Length: 4 weeks

How do you measure life’s risks and rewards?

Our natural desire for security tempts us to play it safe by fitting in with the crowd. Popular trends often influence what we think, how we speak, what we wear, how we behave, and what we view as an acceptable way to live.

God’s call to faith invites us to pursue a higher path: obedience and worship, no matter the cost. Faith in Christ propels us into a life of unreserved submission to the will of our unchanging, promise-keeping God.

In this four-week course, Abraham: God’s Call to Faith, journey with Abraham (first known as Abram) and his wife Sarah (Sarai) through their life experiences recorded in Genesis 12-15. Discover how God raised up Abraham as the spiritual father to all who believe in God by grace through faith in our Savior, Jesus Christ.

In week one, hear God call Abram to leave family and home and witness Abram’s obedience. With this first courageous step of faith, God’s covenant with him begins — a covenant that still impacts us today.

In weeks two to four, take in Abram’s challenges, so like those we experience everyday. He faces daily needs, makes foolish choices, faces family tensions, battles evil, longs for a child, and finds himself waiting … waiting … waiting on God’s perfect timing.

When Abram struggles, God does not offer maps or graphs that chart out the way forward. He answers Abram’s desire for security by offering Himself: “I am your shield, your very great reward” (Gen 15:1).

How might this course help you faithfully trust God amid life’s challenges? Will you, like Abram, choose the risks and rewards of answering God’s call to faith? Going a different way than the crowd may seem costly, but pursuing what God values brings benefits beyond our perceived comfort.

But because God is God, following Him is safe.

Will you choose to take the next step with God, whatever comes?
